I took a few months off from my free monthly calendar download, but had time early this week to create one for November, actually at the beginning of the month.
November's calendar features "The Last Piece of Honey Cake" a small oil I just completed last month of a dessert my husband made from scratch for my in-law's Rosh Hashanah dinner. It's a traditional recipe that he found on Chabad.org, by Marcy Goldman, from her cookbook A Treasury of Jewish Holiday Baking and featured on Cook it Kosher by Miriam Szokovski. It was a big hit with everyone, despite not having the Nordic Ware Heritage Bundt Pan that created the gorgeous relief in her recipe. (I might have to pick one up as a gift for my husband.) This last morsel was painted from life, prior to it being gobbled up. This cake would be tasty any time of year, and makes a great breakfast treat.
Enjoy your November and may it be sweet and full of family and friends. If you happen to make the recipe, let me know!
December's FREE Calendar Download
I've been eating a lot of citrus fruit as I try to clear my head of a month-long cold. These clementines became the inspiration for my December calendar, and a great exercise in exploring complementary colors and the play of shadows, while pushing my watercolor technique during a class of mine at Work and Play in South Orange, NJ. And of course, I live in West Orange, so oranges are on my mind. Enjoy and stay healthy as we approach winter and the treats of the holidays.
November's FREE Calendar Download
There is still just about half of November left to enjoy my 2nd month offering a free downloadable desktop calendar featuring my newest work, November Birthday Cake.
Inspired by the cake baked by my 7-year old for his own birthday, this new watercolor plays with circles and stripes, and incorporates my husband's grandmother's vintage taffeta apron. This month also marks my husband's 40th and we just spent the weekend celebrating with a surprise party.
So Happy Birthday Joel and Lee, and to all of my followers, may you enjoy the cake! And, don't forget you can still purchase my 2016 TraillWorks Calendar (a full color, gift-able printed calendar) from my web site!
Welcome October, with something new from me! I've always wanted to offer a desktop wallpaper of my work to my fans, and I've finally figured out how to do it! Best part of it, it's FREE! So, take a minute to download and set it up as your desktop's wallpaper for the month of October.
This first image titled, Pick Me Up or Down, is a mixed media piece, featuring a watercolor of one of my favorite, handmade mugs, on a ground of collage Yogi tea bag wrappers. I'm a big coffee drinker who also appreciates an occasional, calming cup of tea. Enjoy and please share with friends!
This will arrive monthly on the blog and to my email subscribers, so be sure you're signed up!

Sometimes called the Kitchen God's Artist, I'm balancing mothering two energetic sons, our new pup, Cider, while making and teaching art. TraillWorks is the apron under which I create and teach. My own art develops mostly in my home studio, but is often spurred through my teaching, and travels. I just relocated to Durham, NC, from West Orange, NJ, so my studio is in renovation right now.
