Two years ago I saw the work of Lawren Harris, a Canadian modernist, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. I was awed by his subject, style, and color. When I started this piece, he wasn’t in mind until I started playing with the blues in the snow bank. I think it often takes time for the things you see to manifest in your art; a gestation period, so to speak. This was finished in April, as I was simultaneously creating my TeaScapes. While this work doesn't include tea packaging in the work, it is very similar in nature to the message of the TeaScapes which is an invitation to sit in the space.
This piece was included in a juried show, Personal Landscapes, held in 2020 at the Montclair Art Museum.
Carrie
Small oil painting by Jennie Traill Schaeffer featuring one of her rubber ducky still life subjects for her art students. Rubber ducks came into Jennie's life upon the marriage of her husband and have remained a presence in her studio. This is the second painting done last year featuring one of her rubber ducks. It was developed using Into-Yellow, a paint color that spreads Optimism.

Taking the optimism jars just a bit further, ok, a lot further, I placed my youngest son, who was 4 at the time, in a jar. He exudes optimism in his humor and love of play. Can't we just bottle some of that up?
