Womb Chair over Horton Grover
“Womb Chair over Horton Grover”
11" x 14"
oil on cradled panel
Part of my Take a Seat series, depicting chairs in isolation that invite you to sit. This idea of taking a seat is inspired by my meditation practice in which teachers often use that phrase to transition into meditation. This piece further explores the womb chair, designed by Eero Saarinen and places it suspended by tethers over a trail where I have frequently run. The location is Horton Grove Nature Preserve, northeast of my home in Durham. It's important to note that this location was land that was worked by Black slaves and the trails are named in honor of the families tied to this land. You can read more here.
This painting is headed to a show, "Boldy Taking up Space: Southeast Scope" in Tennessee in May. For interest in purchasing please contact me. https://www.traillworks.com/exhibits--events.html
