This piece marks my shift towards paintings featuring references to the western landscape. In particular, Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole, WY, and multiple places in Utah. Last summer, my family took a road trip starting in St. George, Utah, and ending in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This was my 2nd experience in Jackson Hole, and my first in Utah. The landscape has struck such a cord with me and marks a point of healing in my life.
Yellowstone Calm features the grassy hills beyond the Upper Geyser Basin. The trip to Yellowstone with two boys (4 and 8 at the time), from Jackson Hole, was the farthest thing from calm. We arrived to the park as a storm approached, fearing on the only day we had to be in Yellowstone, that we might have to turn back. Fortunately, my husband and I made the decision to press on. And, upon reaching Old Faithful, the rain abated. We enjoyed lunch at the Old Faithful Inn finishing in perfect time to see Old Faithful erupt. As we trudged onwards on the boardwalks around the geysers, the clouds cleared and the sun shone. This painting is the epitome of the calm after the storm, both environmentally and personally.
If you're out of the a drivable pickup radius from West Orange, NJ, I'd rather you purchase the work unframed since it is framed with glass.
