Snow Day Shadows
(Gregory School)
Watercolor on Strathmore 500 Series Cold Press Paper
5" x 7"
unframed, unmatted
One of several playful watercolors featuring my son's elementary school on a bluebird snow day. It's the backside of the school, the cafeteria, which was built in 2014. I've realized I'm drawn to the view as it's one of the few spots in the neighborhood with big, open sky, and an uninterrupted facade that captures the light. It's also the place of play and pause at his school. West Orange is one of several very densely populated and wooded commuting towns outside of NYC so there are only a few places where you can really take in the beauty of the sky, uninterrupted. This piece minimized the color palette and details to a more abstracted interpretation.
