The Crock Pot was developed first by Naxon Irving as a solution to cooking a bean stew, called cholent, on the Jewish Sabbath. After he sold the patent to Rival, they branded it the Crock Pot and marketed it to working mothers in the '70s. There are interesting studies by sociologists about the impact the Crock Pot had on the feminist movement, and differing views as to whether it played a significant role in freeing woman or further tying them to the kitchen. I've included the Crock Pot as the subject of many of my oil paintings, and this is it's first appearance in a watercolor. The collaged words are from an article my mom sent me from their local paper, detailing the history of this beloved kitchen tool.

This is another piece that began as an experiment during my watercolor class. My former perfectionistic self would not share this work due to the obvious structural issues with the drawing. But, I'm learning to let go. So I've decided this work is finished, and maybe there's an underlying meaning behind that top being askew.
