Scriptural Mural: St. Joseph's Regional School, Newton, NJ | 2011 - 2012
In 2011, I was approached by a parent volunteer at St. Joseph's Regional School in Newton, NJ, just up the road from my old studio, to gauge my interest in painting a mural. She gave me a tour of a large play area which was grim and dismal. They wanted to transform the space for their students through various improvements, phase 1 being the installation of a large-scale scriptural mural.
After getting to know the school and students, along with their initial creative help, we settled on the schemata of nine "windows" which would hold the narratives of several key scriptures chosen by Father Brian Sullivan including: Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark, Moses Receiving the 10 Commandments, The Annunciation, The Nativity, Joseph, The Crucifixion, The Ascension and Resurrection. This was my first outdoor mural, painted using custom-ordered Golden acrylic paints. The highest point of the mural is 15', while the width is approximately 40'. Painting the mural was an incredible experience to have such a transformative role in a community. |

Set Design for HOME: Work Performed by ACFDance, Inc. | 2005
Back in 2004 Adrienne Celeste Fadjo, Artistic & Executive Director of NYC-based ACFDance, Inc. invited me to collaborate with her on a new work. Her vision was big; involving a full evening performance, scenery, lighting, and the title, HOME. She detailed her idea and I was gripped. Her piece was to involve a commentary about relationships and gender roles in the 1950s and today, all danced to music by Moby. She wanted me to design and construct the sets depicting aspects of a 1950s suburban home.
Having never built a set, I had to teach myself how to do it. With my husband, Lee Goldberg's assistance, my concept drawing turned into a freestanding, four-paneled set, each panel measuring 8' wide x 10' tall. |
