Six Degrees of Separation
My given name is Jennie, not Jennifer, as most assume. Born in 1977, I was surrounded by Jennifers. At one point in time (middle school to be exact), I wanted to fit in and I started going by "Jen." I'm not sure if it was in high school that I learned more about Jennie Churchill, my namesake, but the story behind her was intriguing and I became honored to carry her name, and decided to embrace it. Since I began selling my art, I've been meeting more and more people who know "Jennies" and who had close relatives (mothers and grandmothers) named Jennie. This spoon was a gift from a collector, whose grandmother was named Jennie. The collector does not have children and we've gotten to know each other fairly well ; she decided to pass it along to me. This piece began as a completely different painting, and it was several years after beginning it that I shifted the mostly white painting, to a red background. Oil on cradled wood, 12" x 24".
